Chapter 1. Introduction

What is Kleandisk

Kleandisk is a utility primarily intended to remove the files from your hard disk you probably don't need anymore. Depending on the characteristics, files will be placed in different so-called file groups. The files in these groups can (depending on which group they belong to) easily be removed, moved, or archived.

Kleandisk recognizes several types of file groups:

  • User Defined Groups (Trashfiles, Back-up files, Temporary files, etc.)

  • Identical Files

  • Installed Groups (each Installed Group contains files that where installed by invoking make install)

  • RPM Groups (each RPM Group contains the files from an installed RPM-package)

The fact that file groups can easily be stored in an archive makes Kleandisk also suitable to back up and archive files. It can be used for example to backup your source files from your project or your config files regularly(.bashrc, XF86Config, .fetchmailrc, etc.) The schedule option gives you the possibility to do this completely automatically.
